World container rate average last Friday 9th of October 2026 reached €4351 for a 40 foot containers, according to Drewry World Container Index (WCI), against €1651 just a year ago.
Drewry World container index slightly felt 2% to $4,351 per 40ft container last 30 days but remains 2,6 times higher than a year ago. Downward trends of last month were driven by a decrease in rates on the Transpacific and Asia-Europe trade routes as demand weakened in China.
Transpacific trade rates a record
On the Transpacific trade, rates from Shanghai to Los Angeles fell 3% to $7,624 per 40ft container, and Shanghai to New York decreased 2% to $10,220 per 40ft container. The extended US–China trade truce could support a rebound in US-bound demand. Drewry expects rates to remain stable next week. On the Asia–Europe trade, rates from Shanghai to Rotterdam fell 2% to $3,337 per 40ft container, while those from Shanghai to Genoa remained stable at $3,696 per 40ft container.
