Calavo’s Fair Trade program has generated more than $3.3 million for projects supporting farmworkers and their communities since 2013.
Mission Produce has announced plans to expand its Fair Trade Certified avocado program following its acquisition of Calavo Growers. The company will present its expanded business and product range at the IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show in Orlando, Florida, on October 15–16, 2026.
The initiative aims to support avocado growers and farmworkers while giving retailers access to fruit produced under certified social and environmental standards.
Supporting farming communities
Fair Trade Certified avocados come from farms that meet requirements for working conditions, wages and responsible agricultural practices.
The certification also helps direct funds toward projects that benefit agricultural workers and their communities.
Calavo Growers has participated in the program since 2013, generating more than $3.3 million in community development funds. The money has supported healthcare services, housing repairs, reforestation, food assistance and school supplies for workers and their families.
According to Sandy Eason, Director of Organic Sales, expanding the program across Mission Produce's network will allow more growers and communities to benefit from these initiatives.
Expanding avocado supply
Following the acquisition of Calavo Growers, Mission Produce is combining the sourcing and distribution capabilities of both companies.
Brooke Becker, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, said the larger business will be better positioned to secure year-round avocado supplies and respond to changes in market demand.
Avocados remain the company's main product, although its portfolio also includes mangoes, papayas, tomatoes and prepared foods.
Upcoming presentation at IFPA
Mission Produce will make its first appearance at IFPA as a combined organization, with its largest exhibition presence to date.
The company will present its avocado business at booth 3453 and its wider fresh produce range at booth 2271.
Mission Produce supplies retail, wholesale and foodservice customers in more than 25 countries, with sourcing operations covering over 20 growing regions.
