6 companies pool their fleets for greater profitability on routes between Europe and the Far East.
A worldwide agreement between six shipping companies has been signed to combine forces for greater profitability .
The companies signing the agreement were: Japanese Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), German Hapag-Lloyd, the Hong Kong Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), Singapore's APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine from Korea (HMM) and Japan's Mitsui OSK Line (MOL). The agreement, which will start from April 2012, is named the the "G6 Alliance
."
The agreement covers 90 vessels used in nine routes linking Europe to forty ports in the Far East. The service will offer more frequent departures with daily departures from major ports in Asia, Europe and the Mediterranean (Dalian, Ningbo, Qingdao, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Colombo, Jeddah, Port Said, Le Havre, Southampton, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Bremerhaven).
