Türkiye opens three-million-tonne corn import quota

Temporary tariff quota aims to secure feed supplies ahead of the next corn harvest.
Türkiye has introduced a temporary tariff quota allowing the import of three million metric tons of corn at a reduced duty rate, aiming to ensure adequate supply for the feed sector until the next harvest, according to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service.
The quota permits corn imports between 20 April and 31 July 2026 with a 5% customs duty, compared with the significantly higher tariff normally applied to imports outside the quota. The measure is intended to stabilise domestic availability and moderate price pressure in the market.
The report notes that domestic corn stocks have tightened following strong demand from the livestock and poultry industries, which account for the majority of corn consumption in Türkiye. Opening the quota is expected to help feed manufacturers secure raw materials during the period before the new crop becomes available later in the summer.
Authorities have used similar tariff quotas in previous seasons as a short-term policy tool to balance supply and demand. The current measure reflects ongoing efforts to maintain stable feed production and support the country’s livestock sector.
The USDA indicated that the timing of the quota aligns with the seasonal gap between the depletion of existing stocks and the arrival of the new harvest, a period when imports typically play a critical role in maintaining supply continuity.
