South Africa and Egypt are the leaders of the African continent in the export of oranges.
African exports account for more than half of world trade in oranges, reports CITRUS GROWERS 'ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICA.
CITRUS GROWERS 'ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICA, based on data from a USDA FOREIGN AGRICULTURAL SERVICE reports that Egypt now exports 1/3 of the world's oranges and South Africa 25%. This means that African exports account for more than half of the world's oranges trade.
According to this report, South Africa dominates grapefruit exports, accounting for nearly a third of the world's export volume. South Africa is the leading exporter of lemons from the southern hemisphere.
For the coming season CITRUS GROWERS 'ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICA expects export volumes to be affected by the drought affecting the Western Cape and Eastern Cape regions. Harvest estimates will be made in March.
