The high abnormal temperatures of last week, especially in the South East and the Aegean Region, this week many storms caused significant damage in full harvest crops such in orchards of apricots, plums, peaches and nectarines, as well as strawberries grown in the open field, medlar orchard, but also the grass fields, such as wheat and rye.
Yesterday a hail precipitation, the size of a hazelnut, went down in the Mersin area around Mut, particularly renowned for its early apricots, with a white cloth covering the ground. In some places, it has reached a thickness of 50 cm. Farmers, stunned, watched the hail fall densely on their crops for about 10 minutes without being able to do anything.
Teams from the Regional Directorate of Food, Agriculture and Livestock will quantify the damage. But the weather is expected to continue until early next week.
