The hidden forces behind Peru’s avocado boom

New export records signal a shift in the global avocado trade.
Peru has reaffirmed its status as the world’s second-largest exporter of avocados, with national shipments reaching approximately 690,000 metric tons during the 2025 season, a 37% increase compared to the previous year, according to figures from the Association of Hass Avocado Producers and Exporters of Peru (ProHass).
This growth is linked to sustained international demand and improved logistics performance. The Port of Callao continues to be the main departure point for the fruit, having mobilized 32,400 TEUs of avocados in 2024. By September 2025, the terminal had already surpassed that figure, registering 37,678 TEUs exported to international markets.
Export destinations remained diversified: 67.5% of shipments were directed to Europe, followed by North America (15.35%), South America (7.75%), Asia (7.71%), Central America (1.28%), and Africa (0.40%).
The sustained increase in volume highlights Peru’s consolidated role in the global avocado trade and reflects the growing demand for the fruit in multiple regions.
