In Australia bush fires continue and threaten the country's fruit production. The town of Batlow, famous for its apple production, has been evacuated.
In the south-east of NSW (New South Wales), bush fires have become uncontrollable. The inhabitants of the town of Batlow have just been evacuated as well as the farms in the region.
About 10% of Australian apples are grown around Batlow and Tumbarumba. Apple producers tried to secure their properties and tried to water their trees, but the evacuation was decided by the authorities.
Fires will threaten the supply of fresh produce, some experts say, and some categories of fruits and vegetables may run out fairly quickly.
