As a result of joint work between the ASOEX Fruit Technology Consortium, the Catholic University of Chile and the support of Corfo, within the framework of the Raspberry Genetic Improvement Program, the four new varieties of 100% Chilean raspberries were developed.
These 4 new varieties are added to the 3 “Santas” varieties presented by the Consortium in 2015 under the names: Santa Clara, Santa Catalina and Santa Teresa. These raspberries are characterized by their large caliber, rich flavor, and resistance to water stress and diseases. All three "Santas" achieved success among producers in Chile, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Peru and Mexico.
Marina Gambardella, Director of the Raspberry Genetic Improvement Program, added that these 4 new varieties have much better characteristics than the previous varieties in terms of production per plant and fruit quality.
Currently, the four new varieties are in the registration stage with the Livestock Agricultural Service (SAG).
