In Brazil, the consumption of fruits and vegetables increased during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The population looking for foods capable of improving immune health according to experts.
The study conducted by USP (Universidade de São Paulo) found that the consumption of fruits and vegetables increased by 10% during the pandemic period. Experts believe that the threat of COVID-19 has prompted people to seek foods that can improve immune defenses.
The study took place from January to May with more than 10,000 people participating. Revealing that the population that consumes fruits and vegetables daily has increased from 40.2% to 44.6%.
Currently, there are no foods that can cure the coronavirus, but for Luisa Villa, from the Minas Gerais medical school, some manage to increase the body's ability to protect itself and reduce the risks of infection with any virus. "When we eat well and put fiber on our plate, we provide our body with all the vitamins it needs to function well. By eating well, we need less medication".
Citrus fruits like orange, acerola, and lemon are high in vitamin C, and legumes are a source of iron and protein.
