Pumpkin, essential for the Halloween party, is far from a good record harvests.
The State of Illinois, the US center of pumpkin production, experienced heavy rains this summer. These rains resulted in delays for plantations and less blooming compared to previous years. The result: a sharp drop in output (up 50%) and increasing prices.
LIBBY'S Pumpkin specialist company for tins and has a market share of about 80% in the country, expects to offer only half of the usual volume. 45 million of the famous "pumpkin-pie" or half the expected number.
The United States produced in 2014 almost 600 000 tonnes of pumpkins, vegetables dedicated to the surfaces extend over 20,000 hectares.
