Brazilian melons are reaching the European market after drought
The first Brazilian production has left behind the drought that has been suffered during the past years. Fortunately, 2018 has been different and brings new opportunities for this acclaimed fruit.
“There was a lot of rain, reservoirs are full and the farms seem to be doing well," according to Leon van den Hombergh, commercial manager of Frankort & Koning. This helps a lot, as right now many melons are ready for harvest, the quality is very good, and there is not much pressure for diseases.
Brazilian melons usually begin in the week 39 or 40, when they begin to reach the right volumes to the market. If the climate continues like this, playing on our side, in any case, there will be many fresh melons from overseas in stores, so we will not have a short-term shortage, "concludes Leon.
