Algeria wants to develop its dates exports to carry them in 60000 tons per year before 2014.
Second producer of dates to the world, Algeria only export 2 % of its production.
On 600.000 tons realized in 2009, Algeria exported only 12.000 tons for a 20 million dollar value.
During a meeting, Salim Haddoud, President of the interprofessional committee of dates, indicated that exports could increase by 5 and reach 60.000 tons before 2014.
This objective could be realized by improvements in the supply chain, from farmer to product packaging.
Production planned for 2010 is estimated at the same level as last year, 586.000 tons. The variety Deglet Nour represents 40 % of palm groves.
