Andalusian production of mangoes is 22,000 tons; between 70 and 75% of this volume is exported.
The producers of mangoes in Andalusia can be satisfied, they reached the goal set last year to exceed the threshold of 20,000 tons of production in this region.
Weather conditions have propelled a good mango season to 22,000 tonnes this season. The main production areas are Costa Tropical de Granada and Axarquía de Málaga. The cultivation of mango began in the late 80's in the region of Axarquía which now has 3,400 hectares dedicated to this fruit.
If the 3,400 hectares of mangoes still appear modest compared to the 40,000 hectares of avocado grown in Andalusia, the report could be reduced. The professionals of the mango sector estimate that the Andalusian production will be multiplied 4 in the next 4 years.
