Exporters eye better tariff conditions in India.
Frutas de Chile has welcomed progress in talks with India after a public-private mission to New Delhi and Bangalore.
The visit focused on moving forward with the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Chile and India. The delegation was led by Chile’s Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna and Subrei Undersecretary Paula Estévez. Frutas de Chile’s president, Iván Marambio, also took part in the mission.
The agenda included meetings with Indian authorities and business organisations. In New Delhi, the Chilean delegation met India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, and ASSOCHAM, one of India’s major business chambers. The delegation also joined the annual business meeting of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
For Chile’s fruit sector, the main interest is better access to the Indian market. Frutas de Chile said the CEPA negotiations should protect the progress already made under the current regulatory framework and help improve tariff conditions for key export products that still face high import duties in India.
The visit also included meetings with food importers and companies linked to technology, logistics, e-commerce and innovation.
Marambio said the next step is to turn the interest shown by the Indian market into concrete progress, especially within the current CEPA negotiations.
