Japan Fruit Association closes applications for processed fruit supply project

Japan is taking steps to strengthen links between fruit growers and processors, with a focus on more predictable raw material supply.
Japan’s Central Fruit Association has closed applications for a 2026 support scheme aimed at building a steadier supply route for fruit used in processing and foodservice.
The project focuses on fruit shipped under long-term contracts. Its main target is the sorting and shipping stage: fruit must be separated by quality so that processors can receive raw material suitable for juice, purées, jams, desserts and other processed products.
The support is available to councils or groups that bring together producers, shipping organisations, fruit processors and related businesses. The aim is to make cooperation more practical, not just formal. Growers get a clearer outlet for fruit intended for processing, while processors gain a steadier supply of raw material with agreed quality standards.
The association will subsidise expenses needed to build this sorting and shipping system. The subsidy is provided at a fixed rate.
Approved projects must be completed by 28 February 2027. If a long-term supply contract was not ready at the first stage, applicants may submit a copy by the end of September 2026. In that case, final approval will be given after the contract is filed.
Projects will be judged on their purpose, content, implementation structure and expected results. If demand exceeds the available budget, the Central Fruit Association’s review committee will select the most suitable projects.
For Japan’s fruit sector, the measure is intended to reduce supply instability in the processing market and support better use of domestic fruit beyond the fresh retail channel.
