The World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) Annual meeting and debut of Ukrainian fruit exporter
The World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) held its Annual Meeting at Fruit Logistica 2019 in Berlin, where production forecasts in the Southern and Northern Hemispheres were discussed.
WAPA’s Annual Meeting was dedicated to various questions regarding production, marketing, promotion, and sustainability within various countries with representatives of the key global apple and pear producing and exporting countries. In particular, it was a debut for USPA fruit company, Ukrainian exporter, to took part on WAPA’s Annual Meeting.
According to an announcement made on the closing day of the Fruit Logistica exhibition in Berlin, Southern hemisphere apple production this season is estimated at the level of 5.26 million tones, a 2% increase from last season’s 5.16 mln tones and export is expected to remain stable at 1.738 million T. The pear crop is expected to increase by 2% compared to 2018 with the expected export of 712.154 T.
“WAPA is cautiously optimistic about the current campaign, due to the low holdings and relatively good quality of the apples, which lead to good prices,” it was reported. The meeting was concluded with a presentation and discussion about sustainable apple and pear production practices, the latest research and innovation activities, and promotion best practices of the members.
