Chinese wholesale fruit and vegetable prices eased at end of July

Wholesale fruit and vegetable prices in China declined by July 31, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

The average price of 28 monitored vegetables fell 1.1% from the previous day to CNY4.39 (US$0.65) per kg. Six monitored fruits averaged CNY6.76 (US$1.00) per kg, down 1.9%.

Pineapples recorded one of the largest daily declines among the fresh products tracked by the ministry, falling 4.8%. Kyoho grape prices decreased by 2.6%. Garlic moved in the opposite direction, rising 1.3%.

The national agricultural wholesale price index stood at 113.61, down 0.30 points from the day before. The index covering products in China’s “vegetable basket” programme fell 0.36 points to 113.77.
