The trans-Saharan route, here a stretch in Algeria, will facilitate exchanges.
The 4500 km long Algiers-Lagos route will allow more exchanges between the countries of the north and south of the Sahara, its last stretch is expected this year.
At a recent African summit, Algeria announced the completion of the national section of the trans-Saharan highway. The final section, in Niger, is scheduled for 2017.
This year will see the completion of this mega road project born in the 1970s. Composed of a central north-south axis and several lateral branches, this road will link Algeria and Tunisia to 4 countries south of the Sahara , Mali, Niger, Chad and Nigeria.
Initiated by the United Nations Commission for Africa, supported by the African Development Bank, the project called for significant investments in all concerned states.
