This is the International soil Year
FJ
FAO (United Nations) has declared this year the "International Soil Year" to raise awareness to measure the importance of healthy soils.
Soil is a limited resource, which means that their loss and degradation are not recoverable in a human life.
Soil is an essential component of land resources, agricultural development and environmental sustainability, they are the basis of food production (human and animal), the production of fuels and fibers, as well as many essential ecosystem services . They therefore represent a very valuable natural resource, even though it is often overlooked.
The area of ??productive land is limited and under increasing pressure caused by intensive land use and competitive uses - culture, forestry, pasture / rangeland and urbanization - to meet the demands of a growing population on food and energy production and extraction of raw materials.
Floors should be recognized and valued not only for their production capacities but also for their contribution to food security and the maintenance of essential ecosystem services.
