During the 2023-2024 season, Peruvian table grape prices have shown significant variations depending on the destination and the variety exported. According to data from a Peruvian company specializing in agricultural technology, among the six main new varieties, AUTUMNCRISP®, Timpson and Sweet Globe are the most expensive. Hong Kong has been the market that, in general, has offered the highest prices, followed by the United States, Mexico and the Netherlands.
According to the source, in Hong Kong, the AUTUMNCRISP® and Sweet Celebration varieties commanded prices approximately $0.50 and $0.30 higher per kilogram, respectively, compared to Sweet Globe and Ivory. In other markets, prices tended to be more uniform for all varieties, with the exception of lower prices for Allison and Ivory in Mexico.
It is also felt that Hong Kong probably paid more because of the longer transport times from Lima, amounting to 36 days. Although the United States had shorter transport times to Philadelphia (18 days) compared to 25 days to Rotterdam in the Netherlands, it still offered higher prices.
Finally, both the U.S. East Coast and Europe may have been affected by recent congestion in the Panama Canal. The difference in prices between these locations could be due to the Netherlands having more direct access to seasonal grapes from South Africa and India.
