The production and international trade blueberry has experienced a steady growth from the 60's, with a big boost in the last 15 years. The research cited above shows that in 2005 there were worldwide total of 620,000 tons in about 65,000 hectares under cultivation, remain key to its marketing proper cooling process for the preservation of the fruit. The main producing countries are the United States (67%) and Canada (22%). During 2006, Argentina exported 6,355 tons according to Senasa valued at 48,705,000 USD, taking the U.S. as the main destination with 4,380 tons and 31,386,000 USD.
There were also recorded exports of the product to Britain 1,056 tons and 10,173,000 USD and Holland 498 tons and 3,880,000 USD, among other markets.
