Vietnam experienced a sharp slowdown in exports to China, its largest buyer of agricultural products.
The COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic caused border closures and the cease of commercial activities. According to a ministerial source, fruit exports to China in the 1st quarter reached $300.4 million, a drop of 29.4% compared to the previous year.
Vietnam's overall exports fell by 10.9% in the quarter, despite strong increases in some markets such as Thailand and Indonesia.
Trade to China has resumed, but exports are still suffering from weak demand from Chinese consumers.
