Australian mangoes, lychees, cherries export are down

Australian summer fruits are down in production this year due to a warm winter in the North and severe weather conditions in the South. Due to this fact the Sub tropical fruits season started 2 to 3 weeks late that was planed.

Martin Walker the CEO of  «Martin Walker Marketing Pty» the fruit exporters from Australia said:

«We have been sending a reduced volume of Mangoes every day for the last six weeks to Hong Kong. Our daily Lychee shipments to Hong Kong started mid December. As for cherries – the export was minimal ».

Farmers  and cherry producers on the eastern seaboard have been hit hard by continued rain, unseasonably cold weather and low pollination spread which has reduced the annual harvest to just 40 percent of the previous year.

The low yield has forced supermarkets to maintain the high price for cherries.

Due to very high price in domestic market the export of cherries was reduced.

Martin Walker continued:  

«As for table grapes we will start our season in mid January. A recent visit to all our growers/packers in Victoria confirmed that quality looks very good and volume of fruits is enough to for the season. As to the stone fruits have also been affected by weather in some production areas».
