Europe received 71.3% of Chilean avocado exports

Europe remains a growing market for Chilean avocado exports, which have just further improved their performance on this market.

 

 

 

According to the interview, taken up by ASOEX, between SimFRUIT and the director general of the Palta de Chile Committee, Europe remains the main destination for Chilean lawyers. During the 2019/20 season, Europe received 71.3% of total exports, a volume exceeding the previous 2 seasons (2018/19 and 2017/18).

 

 

 

"It is a constantly growing market and we believe there is still great potential in Europe," said Francisco Contardo, director general of the Palta de Chile Committee.

 

 

 

This 2019-20 season was complicated. With difficult destination markets due to the pandemic and a severe drought that has affected the sector. The water deficit is significant, avocado plantations have reduced their production by 30%, from 245,000 tonnes for the 2016-17 season to 168,000 tonnes for the 2019-20 season.

 

 

 

As for exports to Asia, the volume is 8.3% of the total for the 2019/20 season. This gives hope for significant development in the future.
