Increase of garlic prices in Australia.
China, first producer to the world, knows a spectacular increase in price garlic which has been multiplied by ten in two years.
Small harvests and a strong demand pulled a speculation on garlic.
This movement is the same in Australia where prices reaches 30 AUS $ (1 kilo), that is the double of the usual price.
In Australia, bad weather damaged the harvests of garlic pulling an important decline of the offer. Some retailers began imports of garlic from Mexico.
Recent cargoes were quarantined because the Australian Quarantine and inspection service found some disease symptoms; what adds to the tension of the Australian supplies.
The situation should return to normal in December, beginning of garlic production season in Australia.
