Relief for Argentinian producers of apples and pears, Brazil lifts restrictions on its imports from Argentina.
Brazil announced the reopening of its market with apples and pears import from Argentina. After months of closure, due to the discovery of a pest "Cydia pomonella", shipments from the main producing areas of Argentina (Río Negro, Neuquén, Mendoza) will be able to resume.
Argentina exports to Brazil have quadrupled in the last 10 years. In 2014, Argentina exported to Brazil over 137 000 tonnes of pears and 49 000 tonnes of apples. 35% of its total shipments of pears and 38% of its total shipments of apples went to Brazil.
