The export volume of Argentina apples in Russia is at its lowest level.
Russia produced 825,600 tons of apples in 2013 (960 000 tonnes in 2012) for a domestic demand of 1.54 million tons. The imports are therefore important, However it is the apple that has experienced the largest increase (+11%) among the imports.
For the 2012-2013 season, Argentina exported only 28,000 tons of apples in Russia, 20% less than the previous year, the lowest level in five years.
Experts explain this drop in several ways: the price of apples from Argentina have increased by 100% since 2007, while the world price of fruit rose only between 35% and 50%.
