Due to unfavorable weather in the first half of 2022, Brazilian fruit exports decreased by 11% in value and volume, according to the Brazilian Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit and Derivatives (ABRAFRUTAS).
Apple exports fell -30% due to the decrease in production provoked by droughts in the south of the country. Other fruits that showed negative variation were mango and table grape.
However, supplies of melon, watermelon and lemon grew.
Melon exports reached $56.1 million (+7%) and 94.100 tons (+9%) in the first semester of 2022, while those of lemon totaled $75.9 million (+12%) and almost 90.000 tons (+14%).
Watermelon exports increased +20% in volume and +32% in value.
The growth of these fruits is explained by the increase in planted areas, the appearance of new exporters and the improvement in quality that increased interest in the fruit in the European market.
