Peruvian citrus fruits and blueberries will enter the markets of India soon

Soon Peru will start exporting citrus and blueberries to India, reports the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (Senasa). The Government of India is expected to publish the phytosanitary import requirements for these products until August 31, on the website of the WTO Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures.
Peruvian oranges, mandarins, lemons, grapefruits and blueberries may enter this market once the consultation period has concluded and if there are no objections, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare of India will publish the phytosanitary requirements in the official newspaper of the country, "Gazette of India".
According to data from Senasa, in 2020 Peru exported a total of 268.000 tons of citrus fruits: 200.000 tons of mandarins, 19.000 tons of lemons, 29.000 tons of oranges, 18.000 tons of tangelos and 2.000 tons of grapefruit.
The main citrus exporting regions in Peru are Ica, Junín and Lima; Piura and Lambayeque also stand out with their lemon exports.
In the case of blueberries, Peru is recognized as a leading exporter of this superfruit worldwide, supplying 15.972 tons in the last year. The main exporting regions are La Libertad, Lima, Lambayeque, Ica, Piura, Ancash, and to a lesser extent Loreto and Moquegua.
