Sicilian orange is now better protected from counterfeits

The Sicilian Blood Orange (Arancia Rossa di Sicilia) has an additional tool to be better protected from scams and counterfeits. With the international registration of the trademark Arancia Rossa di Sicilia.
The Arancia Rossa di Sicilia brand has been entered in the International Trademark Register. The Sicilian fruit will now also be protected against counterfeiting in Canada, Japan, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and the Russian Federation.
At Italian and European level, the brand is well protected thanks to the IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) and by the certified traceability tools that have been developed.
"With the international registration of the mark, we are taking another decisive step in the protection of blood orange" said Elena Albertini, Vice-President of the Consorzio di Tutela Arancia Rossa di Sicilia IGP.
Italian agrifood products of excellence are recognized on foreign markets and see their exports develop both to Europe and to non-European countries. "Italian producers and protection consortia must therefore equip themselves with tools and strategies to defend themselves against counterfeits and deceptive products which can erode the turnover of original products or damage their image" underlined Elena Albertini.
The Consorzio di Tutela Arancia Rossa di Sicilia has an area of 45,000 hectares cultivated with blood oranges. It brings together 450 members including 70 packers and 52 products are offered under the brand: fresh fruits but also juices, energy drinks, cosmetics, desserts.
