Despite dips in some markets, Peru's fresh fruit and vegetable exports to Asia saw overall growth, led by strong performances in Japan, Taiwan, and Turkey.
Peru’s agroindustrial exports to Asia reached over $262 million in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 3.81% increase compared to the same period last year. According to the Peruvian Exporters Association (ADEX), fresh produce and processed goods were shipped to 34 Asian countries, showing the growing reach of Peru’s fruit and vegetable industry in the region.
Top destinations included China (22.5%), Hong Kong (16.5%), and South Korea (16%), followed by Japan, Taiwan, and Malaysia. While total figures are up, some key markets like China and Hong Kong saw significant declines. Exports to China dropped 12.4%, mostly due to lower shipments of fresh avocados and grapes, though products like tara powder and seaweed showed sharp increases.
Hong Kong’s imports fell nearly 18%, but it remained a solid buyer of grapes and avocados. Meanwhile, South Korea's numbers held steady, with mixed results: grapes and mangoes dipped slightly, while avocado and bean exports grew.
Other strong performers included Japan, which more than doubled its imports (+121%), and Taiwan, up nearly 30%. Notably, Turkey's imports surged by over 450%, driven by increased demand for Peruvian fresh produce.
Despite market shifts, Peru's fruit and vegetable exports remain resilient, showing both geographic diversification and adaptability in product offerings. This data confirms Asia as a vital and growing outlet for Peruvian agriculture in 2025.
