New tomato greenhouses in the Netherlands
On June 11 were signed the documents for the purchase of the land to build greenhouse West and greenhouse South at nursery Schenkeveld Schiphol, the Netherlands.
The company grows different kinds of tomatoes, from large to small, both with and without using light/lamps, which enables to produce tomatoes all year round.
Schenkeveld continues construction of two projects from 2017 and 2018 years. The reason for the three years delay were World War II bombs founded in the purchased land.
Now, three years later, the company is ready for further expansion with two modern illuminated greenhouses of 11 ha each and a business space suitable for growing, sorting and packaging more than 300,000 kilos of vine tomatoes per day.
Pieter van der Wel, Location Managerof the company, comments: “We are now fully satisfied and will make further plans for the new building at Schiphol.”
After years of intensive cooperation, Schenkeveld join forces with another tomato grower Kwekerij De Kabel in early 2019. The company see the added value from this every day. “An example is the clout we create together. This way we are able to deal more flexibly with new developments, such as sharpening the necessary hygiene protocols” says Richard Hartensveld, Director and co-owner of the company.
