Objective of 15,000 tons of avocados exported in 2023

Tanzania exported 7,551 tonnes of avocados in 2018 then 11,237 tonnes in 2021 and plans 15,000 tonnes for 2023 (Photo: foodforafrika.com).

Tanzania is the 3rd largest avocado producer in Africa, after Kenya and South Africa. The volume exported by the country increased by +48.8% between 2018 and 2021 and will continue to increase.

According to a TAHA (Tanzania Horticultural Association) report, the country's avocado exports in 2021 reached 11,237 tonnes in volume and TZS 75.9 billion (USD 33 million).

Compared to 2018 data from a TPSF (Tanzania Private Sector Foundation) report, these 2021 figures represent an increase of +48.8% in volume (7,551 tonnes exported in 2018) and +288% in value (8 .5 million USD in 2018).

TAHA predicts that Tanzania will export 15,000 tonnes of avocados in 2023, which would generate TZS 103.5 billion (USD 45 million).
