The total citrus production for the 2014-15 season is forecast at 28.7 million tonnes, a slight decrease of 4% compared to the previous season.
The latest report of SHAFFE and FRESHFEL indicates a total production planned of 28.7 million tonnes in the northern hemisphere. By category: oranges will reach 17.3 million tonnes (-5%), peelers 6.3 million tonnes (-1%), lemons 3.3 million tonnes (-1%), grapefruit 1.6 million tonnes (-6%).
The decline in production will be more pronounced in the EU (-10%) than in other countries around the Mediterranean (-3%). United States production is expected to grow by 2%.
