Poland offers a bountiful harvest of openings for Chilean fresh fruit - especially table grapes, kiwis and apples. That was among the conclusions of a workshop run by the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association (CFFA) during international trade show IFE Poland 2008 held on 19-21 of May, of which Chile was the Country sponsor.
The session, one of many high-profile promotional activities held over the three days in the CFFA’s striking mobile information centre, was an opportunity for Polish importers and Chilean exporters to discuss trade opportunities directly.
“The level of interest was extremely high: we had around 30 representatives from Poland’s leading fresh fruit and vegetable importers attending. All of them were interested in sourcing their produce from Chile, particularly table grapes, apples and kiwis.” commented Christian Carvajal, the CFFA Marketing manager for Europe and Asia.
According to Ronald Bown, president of the Chilean Exporters Association, “Exports to Poland are already moving apace. In 2006-2007, shipments of table grapes and red apples to the emerging eastern European economy grew by 18% 3,842 to 4,551 tons) and 105% (210 to 432 tons) respectively.
“Furthermore, Poland is one of the largest grocery and retail markets in Europe with sales of 38.9 billion euro, and consumer spending is expected to increase to 135.1 billion euros in 2007 - up 4.29% year-on-year”.
The CFFA hosted this event in the mobile information centre, a specially converted truck trailer unit housing comfortable meeting facilities, multimedia information areas, where representatives of Chilean export companies where on hand to hold meetings with potential Polish clients. Over 35% of visitors came under the wholesaler, distributor and importer category, while retailers represented 21%.
