Satisfaction for the fresh produce sector in Spain, consumption of Fruits & Vegetables is on the rise again. Reflecting the growing consumer awareness of healthy eating.
In the first five months of the year, fruit consumption increased by 2.2% compared to the same period last year and spending by 1% to 2,569 million euros. Demand for apples increased by 3% and strawberry demand by 14%.
For vegetables, demand rose 0.2% in volume and 5.1% in value. If the tomato is still the main vegetable consumed, with 217 million kilos, the same volume as the previous period, onions grew by 2.1% and cabbage by 147% with 73 million kilos.
These good results in fruit and vegetable consumption reflect the growing consumer awareness of healthy eating, in which the consumption of Fruits & Vegetables is recommended by health authorities such as WHO, FAO and the Ministry of Health.
