Australian grapefruits received the agreement to enter in Japan.
Japan has just accepted the import of Australian grapefruits after years of refusal.
The main obstacle was the possible presence of fly of fruits. Australian fruits, treated under cold conditions, perfectly answered the strict standards of quarantine required by Japan.
Australian producers congratulate themselves on this decision which gives them access to the Japanese market and could extend in other varieties of fruits.
" Japan is the world pacemaker of quarantine standards in numerous farm produces ", declared Mr Redman, Australian Minister for Agriculture.
The Japanese decision could also open other markets as the United States, Taiwan, Korea, Thailand and China.
