US apple production volumes are expected to decline by about 8% from the previous season.
At its annual conferences held this year in Chicago (IL), U.S.Apple Association has announced its crop forecast in the United States.
Thanks to information gathered from its members, the association plans to produce 248.3 million 42-lb (19.05 kg) cartons for the 2017-18 harvest. That is a decrease of 8% compared to the 2016-2017 season. This estimate is 400,000 cartons below the estimate published by the USDA earlier.
This decline in US production seems to echo the projected decline in European production (our news of 25.08.2017), which is expected to be much more severe (-21%). For non-European producers, Russia is expected to fall by 37%, Mexico by 30% and Canada by 5%.
