These seeds, marketed under the NUNHEMS brand (more than 25 species, more than 1,200 varieties) represent an annual turnover of EUR 460 euros worldwide.
The two German giants BASF and BAYER have opened exclusive negotiations for the acquisition by BASF of all of BAYER's vegetable seeds activities.
These new negotiations follow the announcement in October of a sale by Bayer at BASF of the seed segments of cotton, rapeseed and soya as well as some weed killers. The amount of this initial sale amounted to EUR 6 billion. Now it seems that BAYER intends to sell all of its vegetable seeds to BASF.
This new sale is taking place against the backdrop of the BAYER-MONSANTO merger. According to analysts BAYER would thus be in line with the directives of the European Commission, appeasing concerns about the consequences in terms of competition of its operation on MONSANTO.
