Dave McCann will replace the departing Jimmy Tolan as chief executive of Fyffes in April.
Fyffes, the Ireland-based tropical fruit importer and distributor, has announced the impending resignation of chief executive Jimmy Tolan, who is set to leave the group on 30 April to take up a role at Vhi Healthcare.
The company's executive chairman, Dave McCann, will take on the role of chief executive, a position he previously held between 1995-2006. Mr Tolan has accepted an invitation to remain involved with Fyffes as a non-executive director.
Mr McCann praised Mr Tolan's contribution to the company's growth, describing him as a "key member" of the management team. "As head of corporate development for most of that time, he was deeply involved in the group's acquisition led growth over the past two decades," he said.
Mr Tolan said that he had enjoyed his 18 year spell with the Irish company, and that he was pleased to remain involved with Fyffes in a non-executive director capacity.
"It is the right time for me personally to move on to a new role in a sector in which I have always had a particular interest. I am confident that the management team at Fyffes will continue to successfully implement its medium term strategic plan," he added.
