Decline of the potatoes production

The potatoes harvests in Switzerland accuses a decline of the production estimated at 24 %, any variety taken into account, with regard to the average of the last five years, according to a report publicated by Swisspatat. Besides this small production, the surface of the potatoes culture dropped of 400 hectares this year. The estimations for the 2006 harvest turns around 392.000 tons. In 2006, 7.900 Swiss producers cultivate a little more than 12.000 hectares of potatoes.
