Changes planned for World fertilizer demand
FJ
In the year 2015, International Year of Soils, FAO wants to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable soil management without whom there would be no life on earth.
FAO anticipated that the use of mineral fertilizers will exceed 200 million tonnes in 2018 (our info from 01.06). But this use will vary considerably by region.Sub-Saharan Africa show a strong demand for nitrogen and potash, despite low current levels of use. Asia will remain the world's largest consumer of fertilizers and build on imports of the 3 major nutrients even if the West Asia has a large surplus of nitrogen, phosphate and potash.
Europe as a whole will also have a surplus of 3 major nutrients largely due to positive balances in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Fertilizer use in 2018 is expected to be stable in Western Europe, but increase by 3.6% per year in the eastern sub-region. Latin America and the Caribbean also depend on imports of the 3 nutrients, their use of fertilizers to grow at an annual pace of 3.3% during the period.
