59% increase in pitahaya exports

In 2021, Ecuador's pitahaya exports increased by 59% compared to the previous year, totaling 17.895 tons in 5.975 certified shipments, according to data from the Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control Agency (Agrocalidad). In turn, in 2020, the country shipped 11.260 tons to 27 countries.

 

The main destination markets in 2021 were the United States (84%), Colombia (5.4%) and Singapore (2.7%). 

 

According to Agrocalidad, today Ecuador has 2.051 pitahaya production sites for export, located in 21 provinces, of which Morona Santiago has 65%, followed by Manabí (8%) and Pichincha (5.5%).
