Port of Barcelona implements improvements in customs processes
The implementation by the Port of Barcelona of two new customs processes (the Customs Code (CDU) of the European Union and the Spanish National Single Window) will facilitate the formalities for importers, exporters and logistics operators.
The EU Customs Code, which is starting to partially enter into force before finally applying across the EU in May 2019, will lead to the simplification and harmonization of customs formalities. The process will lead to the implementation of the European-wide Electronic Customs, planned for 2020. The possibility of realizing customs clearance online with any EU customs, regardless of the point of entry -port, airport, road- will open up new opportunities for importers and exporters.
The other process that improves customs clearance at the Port of Barcelona is the Customs One Stop Shop. The objective is to coordinate inspections of Customs and Inspection Services. The Customs Single Window allows logistic operators, freight forwarders, customs agents, etc. to carry out electronically and by means of a single portal, all the customs and border inspection formalities required for the passage of the goods.
Under the new procedure, operators may submit an advance declaration (before the vessel arrives at the port) and, from the nomenclature of the goods, Customs will determine the Border Inspection Services competent to perform the duties. controls. Each department decides on the type of inspection and, if several need to carry out a physical inspection, they coordinate to carry out the inspection at the same time.
