Innovative protecting nets for the production of apples

Developed by the Agronomy Department of the University of Concepción, with funding from the FIA (Fundación para la Innovación Agraria) and the collaboration of apple industry professionals.
The objective was to improve the competitiveness of apple orchards by developing protective nets with innovative mesh. These protective nets are based on photosensitive techniques. They are red, yellow or blue in color, so they can modify the spectrum of sunlight and thus modify certain physiological processes of trees. Reducing unfavorable weather phenomena and improving production potential.
The prototypes installed in the field gave very good results. The patents are filed and the partner company of this university project is about to put them on the market.
