Spanish lemon production expected to grow by 34 %

In Spain, the 2022/23 season saw the smallest lemon harvest in 10 years, but estimates for the next season point to a 34% increase in volume.
ALIMPO, the inter-professional association for lemons and grapefruit, has announced a forecast production of 1,365,000 tonnes for the 2023/24 season, including 990,000 tonnes of Fino lemons and 375,000 tonnes of Verna lemons.
This represents an increase of 34% on the 2022/23 season, which totalled 1,018,407 tonnes, of which 578,480 tonnes were exported to EU markets and 16,567 tonnes to non-EU markets. Domestic consumption amounted to 173,238 tonnes, with the industry using 211,613 tonnes and weight losses of 38,419 tonnes.
