Facilitating decision making and keeping growers informed about the situation of kiwi production in Chile is the main objective of the new IT platform "Sistema Gestión del Kiwi" developed by the Chilean Fruit Kiwi Committee.
Carlos Cruzat, president of the Committee, explained that this platform allows producers to easily access updated information on the growth of the fruit and the evolution of the season at national, regional and communal level. Previously, this information was sent by email or WhatsApp, but now it is available online, which speeds up access and data review.
The platform provides access to the PAM Maturity Assurance Programme, orchard monitoring and weekly technical and statistical reports. All of this provides producers with the data they need to make informed decisions on the management of their crops.
In addition, face-to-face activities, such as post-harvest days, are planned to analyse available fruit and assess seasonal and technical challenges. This information is validated and shared with different areas of the industry, allowing a comprehensive view of the agricultural reality in Chile.
The platform, which began to be developed in 2020, collects phenological and orchard monitoring information, allowing growers to visualise trends and make decisions based on solid data. The selection of orchards represents different geographical areas and growing conditions, ensuring the representativeness of the data collected.
