Orange crop report
United States
Thursday 14 December 2006
Florida's orange crop may be smaller than the 17-year low the U.S. government forecast in October as dry weather limits fruit size in groves damaged by hurricanes and disease. Orange juice futures reached a record high.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture next week may forecast a Florida crop as low as 132.4 million boxes, down 1.9 percent from the 135 million projected two months ago, according to the average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Bloomberg. Florida produced 147.9 million boxes of oranges last season.
