Decrease in the area of tomatoes

The decline continues for the areas of tomatoes in Italy.

 

Agricultural areas under contract for tomato processing continue to decline. According to the Association Distretto Pomodoro da Industria del Nord Italia this year surfaces reach 32,023 hectares, down by 8% compared to 2012 which counted 34,936 hectares.

 

This decrease was as a result of a decline already observed, the surfaces of this year are lower by -15.5% compared to 37,891 hectares in 2011. Experts estimate that this decline has been driven by the removal of certain European subsidies.
